Decorative candlestick

Similar to an ancient Greek column. The candlestick has designs of lion heads, flowers, as well as the famous ancient Greek symbol meander. A column or pillar in architecture and structural engineering is a structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. The term column applies especially to a large round support (the shaft of the column) with a capital and a base or pedestal, which is made of stone, or appearing to be so. The Greeks developed the classical orders of architecture which, include Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian, are most easily distinguished by the form of the column and its various elements. A meander or meandros is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Such a design is also called the Greek fret or Greek key design, although these are modern designations. In ancient Greece they appear in many architectural friezes, and in bands on the pottery of ancient Greece from the Geometric Period onwards. The design is common to the present-day in classicizing architecture.
